'Self-doxing', or researching what is openly available about you online, is a technique that can help you make informed decisions about what you share online, and how. Take into account that you might be surprised or frighten by what you might find about yourself. You might want to do the exercise with some good friends so you can discuss and strategise about what is coming up. Once you’ve doxed yourself, take a look at the data you’ve accessed and think about what a stranger may be able to figure out or reveal about you from what they’ve found. If you feel you and others close to you (such as fellow activists) are at increased risk, you may want to look for publicly available connections between you and members of your network as well. Remember though, doxing only shows what information is publicly available about you. This is only a fraction of what service and platform providers can see.
